Avengers Assemble!

Happy 6th Birthday to Jacob!

Jacob is Rachel's nephew and we were really excited to be asked to make the cake for his birthday party. Especially as we seem to have done a fair few feminine cakes recently.

After a few ideas Jacob settled on the idea of The Avengers.

We had loads of fun making this cake, somewhat helped by Absolute Classic rock on the radio (picture air guitar with rolling pins and paintbrushes!)

Here are some pictures of the whole process:

Dia de Los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos or The day of the dead in English, is a festival / holiday celebrated in November in Mexico to honour those that have passed. It is a vibrant and colourful affair and perhaps the most striking thing from the festival is the beautifully decorated skulls, also known as sugar skulls.

My dad (hello! It's Lizzie) loves skulls and. Even as I type that it sounds strange! Not like he has a 'weird' thing for them, he just likes them. I think it's the biker in him. So, when his birthday came round this year I liked the idea of making him a cake skull to celebrate.

I went through literally hundreds of pictures of skulls on the Internet and my original plan was to emulate a vintage tattoo (my dad, also into tattoos) I quickly changed my mind when I started looking at pictures of sugar skulls, so that's what I went with.

I chose to stick with three main colours rather than the really bright colours associated with sugar skulls. Gold, black and red accents on a white background., this was the end result!

The cake received lots of compliments and most importantly my Dad loved it.

Scale is hard to grasp from the picture but a quarter comfortably fed 10 of us at the restaurant!!

Grooms Cake

We don't know about you but we're OBSESSED with Pinterest, literally losing hours just browsing around!

It is a wonderful place for inspiration or 'Pinspiration' if you like (we do!). One thing that we have learnt through our perusal of Pinterest and our obsession with 'Amazing Wedding Cakes' is that our friends over the pond have a tradition of giving a 'Grooms Cake' on the Wedding day.

Here's a few of our favourite examples,

A Grooms cake is a gift from the Bride to her Groom and is supposed to reflect his personality and his interests / hobbies.

We think its a wonderful idea and would certainly love the opportunity to have a go! Maybe we'll whip up some examples that we would use for our other halves, although my boyfriend (Hi it's Lizzie typing!) doesnt like cake.

Yes, i know.
No, really.
I know!
Strange thing he is.

Have you considered adopting a new tradition for your wedding? Drop us a line, we'd love to hear your ideas for Grooms cakes!

Princess Cakes

We've had a busy couple of days trialing ideas for cakes, rather girly cakes at that! Princesses to be even more specific, and we love them!

Both inspired by Cinderella, the blue and white of the first cake and the second cake we attempted to recreate the wonderful sewing scene from the film! Cinderelly Cinderelly...

This little princess caused a mixed reaction on our Facebook page but we sure would have loved this as a little girl! Infact we would probably be pretty thrilled if someone graced us with a cake like this for a birthday now. We did have to reign in the urge to go 'Big Fat Gypsy' on the cake with rhinestones, crystals and and a shed load of glitter!

We're plotting a baby shower cake next before we start work on the orders we have in the diary. We shall keep you posted with pictures and stories as we go :)

Valentine's Day

So, that time of year is upon us once again! All the flowers, cards and chocolates are adorning the shelves of the supermarkets! Love is in the air!

BUT, Valentines doesn't have to be an overly extravagant day, there's no need to spend £££'s to show someone that you care, just as it doesn't have to be a rubbish day if you don't have a 'special someone'. Text your best friend, send them your Valentines wishes! INFACT! Do it even if you do have a 'someone special!' Valentines is just a lovely day to show someone you care and that you love them!

Happy Valentines for Thursday, have a lovely day and EAT CAKE!

Hello there, come in! Sit down!

Welcome to our Blog!!!!!!!!

First of all, an introduction... I'm Lizzie, one half of Bumble and Blossom, I'm 24 and live with my boyfriend and our Bichon Frise, Harry. I spend my week working in an office, my evenings either swimming, drinking tea or baking (surprise, surprise!) and my weekends are usually filled with woodland dog walks and even more baking!

We, Rachel and I, thought that a Blog would be a nice way for you to get to know us and means that you can have peak behind the scenes of B&B! I am naturally a really nosey person so I'm all for this idea.

We are hoping that this can be a place for us to post tutorials and recipes as well as showcase the behind the scenes elements of our large bespoke orders and our day to day lives!

We have set up our own pages as part of the blog for our personal posts and will keep this section for the main B&B shenanigan's.

This afternoon, whilst walking Harry I spied something really rather exciting...

A Chestnut!! I adore Autumn / Winter, more than any other time of the year and just seeing this little fella got me really excited for dark nights, frosty mornings and knitwear!

Also on today's walk...

The less said about my slip into the mud, the better!

Until next time,

Lizzie
